Smores, although commonly referred to as "s'mores," were actually created by Nicholas Smore in Russia during approxiamtely
the mid-1860s. This famous campfire treat was made popular in the twentieth century primarily by the Girl Scouts of America.
Smore himself never sold the food he invented but only passed on the recipe by word of mouth to his relatives and friends.
Smore's brother, Francis Smore eventually published a cookbook which included the recipe, which he entitled "S'mores."
Francis Smore was the first to publicize the current version of the name.
